Industry-leading event returns as part of The Work Truck Show®

FARMINGTON HILLS, MI (Nov. 7, 2012) – Registration is now open for the work truck industry’s leading educational forum on clean vehicle technologies, the Green Truck Summit. The Green Truck Summit kicks off the extensive educational conference at The Work Truck Show® 2013 on March 5. The Summit gives fleet managers and other industry professionals practical ideas and real-world solutions for implementing new green practices.

The Green Truck Summit, presented by International Truck, is produced jointly by NTEA and CALSTART. It runs March 5−6, 2013. The Work Truck Show 2013 trade show floor is open March 6−8, with educational sessions starting March 5. The Green Truck Summit and The Work Truck Show are held at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, IN.

“This event has really grown over the last few years as people have seen the positive impact new clean technology can have on their operations,” says Doyle Sumrall, NTEA senior director of business development. “The Green Truck Summit is a can’t-miss event for forward-thinking fleet managers and anyone looking to gain a competitive advantage through green initiatives.”

Topics for the Green Truck Summit 2013 include clean technology and fuel trends, deployment strategies, viable alternative fuels and funding opportunities. The Summit’s slate of presenters includes a wide range of technical experts and industry leaders, including representatives from truck and engine OEMs, government agencies and fleet operations.

Over its day-and-a-half run, the Green Truck Summit features 24 breakout sessions, five general sessions and two keynote addresses. Keynote speakers will be announced closer to the event.

The first general session, “Trends in Clean Technologies and Fuels,” is presented by Sumrall and CALSTART President and CEO John Boesel. The two will discuss current clean trends and give an outlook for manufacturers, suppliers and fleets. It will take place Tuesday, March 5 at 9:00am.
The other opening day general sessions are “OEM Perspectives on the Future of Clean Technologies,” “Modeling the Benefits of Deploying Green Technologies” and “Optimizing Engines: New Ideas to Be Clean and Efficient.” Breakout sessions scheduled for Tuesday cover propane, hydrogen fuel cells, natural gas, hybrid electric systems, truck updates and more.

The general session on Wednesday, March 6, “Compounding the Green: Incremental Measures for Going Green and Sustainable,” is led by Fred Silver, vice president of CALSTART. This session will address vehicle productivity enhancement, idle management, energy use reduction and sustainable fleet management. It will run 8:45am−9:45am.

Remaining breakout sessions address bi-fuel CNG and LPG systems, turbine-electric trucks and other fuel-saving advancements. The complete Green Truck Summit schedule is available at www.ntea.com/greentrucksummit/schedule. A full list of sponsors is available at www.ntea.com/greentrucksummit/sponsors.

Other truck initiatives at The Work Truck Show include the Green Truck Ride-and-Drive sponsored by Hino Trucks, where attendees can experience the latest in cutting-edge clean vehicle technology with hands-on test drives and demos. On the show floor, the CALSTART Clean Technologies and Fuels Pavilion features “green” equipment that is commercially available today.

How to Install Hitch Pin - CURT Manufacturing

All US roadways are designed with rain run-off in mind leaving the highest point in the center and allowing the rain to run off towards the ditches. This is something you should keep in mind when installing your receiver pin. Always insert the pin on the driver's side of the receiver tube so if something were to happen to the cotter pin the vibrations of the road will drive the pin further in place. Instead of allowing it to fall out. This is also why when towing you should routinely check your towing set-up. Another way to combat this problem is by checking out one of CURT's lockable receiver pins.

Don't Miss the Vacaville Kid Fest, Saturday, Oct 6th, Andrews Park. For The Kid In All Of Us

Vacaville Kid Fest was started in 1999, when an idea was born to create a "Children's Festival", a place where families could come and have a day of activities with their children at very little or no cost, and also have the opportunity to learn about many of the services and resources that were available to children and families. We adopted the theme "For the Child in all of us".

A group of City of Vacaville representatives, ranging from business owners and managers, nonprofit groups and media people were approached with the idea and met it with enthusiasm. And thus, Kid Fest was born.

The first Kid Fest Core Committee consisted of Shauna Manina, Meaghan O'Neill from Vacaville Police Dept., Linnea Dischinger from Vacaville Fire Dept., Todd Grames and Suzanne Green from Community Services Dept., and Reggie Hubbard from Housing & Redevelopment Dept. Other business people from The Reporter, Downtown Vacaville Business Improvement District, and others all committed to the vision of a day of low cost or no cost activities, free resources, and fun.

Our first event in 1999 had 1 stage and 40 booths, with everything from food, crafters and merchandise vendors, a wide range of social service and community nonprofit groups, free children's games and entertainment, bounce houses, and a very strong focus on child safety and health. From the beginning, a large component of the event has been the presence of Vacaville Fire and Police Depts., with their equipment displays, children's fire muster, and safety information.

By 2001, there were 2 stages of entertainment and over 120 booths participating in the event. The committee members have changed over the years, but the event has continued, and become part of the fabric of what makes Vacaville a family oriented community. The focus remains on child and family safety and health.

See more about this wonderful organization at www.VacavilleKidFest.org

See you there!

How to Find the Model Year and Build Date of Your Vehicle - CURT Manufacturing

When selecting a hitch it's important that you know the correct year of your vehicle. In some instances vehicle manufacturers make running changes in the middle of a model year. When this happens you need to know the build date. Typically the build date is printed on a sticker located on the driver's side door sill here. You can also find out the model year of your vehicle by looking at the 10th digit of your VIN number. Depending on the year of the vehicle there is a designated letter or number corresponding to model year. Find out what your 10th digit means by looking at the provided chart!

How to Grease a Ball Mount - CURT Manufacturing

Every trailer coupler is designed with certain tolerances in mind. Over time the grinding motion of the trailer turning, will slowly erode these tolerances away. This is why it's a good idea to grease your trailer ball. As far as what grease you should use, any type you have lying around should work. So grease your balls and keep your trailer together!

Camper Shells - Accessories For Trucks

The camper shells are immense supplements to pickup trucks. They put character to the automobile as well as add to the functionality of the vehicle. The truck will look exclusive by adorning its appearance and putting camper shells and ornaments to it. These accessories will further protect the contents inside.

It can carry more cargo in a protected and sheltered means. He may also save and expand the vacant space by supplementing some useful tools to the camper shells.

Some of the accessories of pickup trucks need to consider are the following.

Bed Rugs and Carpets

The bed rugs and carpets will make the truck floors more cushioned when someone likes to take a short nap during long travels. It will prevent loads from slipping also. It will also make it suitable to load fragile and breakable cargoes. There is nothing to worry about in bringing precious appliances, instruments or gadgets.

It is also better to get stain-resistant, water-proof, hard, custom-fit carpets that will not rub the paint of the truck flooring.

Bed Liners and Gaskets

The bed liners are wonderful cargo pads. It will avoid bruises on the automobile beds. However, the skid-resistant exterior will help maintain the load in place by minimizing its changes. It also works to keep the truck bed by minimizing bed liner's change.

It keeps the flooring clean always. The floors could rust with constant cleaning so these liners are placed there for protection. These can be removed and washed before putting it back.

Roof Racks

The roof racks may be placed for a long period of time on the camper shells for additional space for loads. These may be fit to any face involving fiberglass. It could carry bulky items of irregular shapes that will not fit inside the camper shell.

There are different kinds of roof racks in the market. There are the lightweight or long lasting tubing for most favorable cargo capacity. Almost all of them are offered with modifiable lengths and widths. There are models also with secured rear bars for fast loading and discharging.

Tool Boxes

Removable tool boxes are beneficial for surveying, building, plumbing, electrical and engineering handyman trucks. They are also ideal for groceries and leisure outings. They are truly perfect and advantageous all-around box that holds all your important tools in one container.

However, there are several choices for cargo designs of the truck bed. The load gates may be locked down on any area of the pickup truck even on the side. The modifiable load bars act to keep things at the back of the truck safely. The cargo holders are best substitute for load boxes.

On the other hand, the luggage compartment permits side storage in the floor. The add-ons track floorings offer dragging additional long cargo or put some more things on a travel.

In addition, the hitch racks are perfect rear maximizer for bringing more items or gears. The tailgate managers are additional storage bins. These can be lock on to tailgates. Its locks can also carry tailgate in place.

Everybody has lots of choices for truck managers, main camper shells and accessories of trucks. These will really assist them in extending functionality of the pickup truck. There is absolutely something that will fit everyone's need for any reason, season or event.

Finding the Perfect Tool Box For Your Pickup Truck

If you own a truck, chances are you bought it so that you can haul large loads, carry equipment and tools, or possibly use it as a work vehicle. No matter the reason, a truck provides more power and more space for hauling large loads. Because of this, a truck becomes the perfect vehicle option for people who work in building and constructing and use their vehicle to travel from work site to work site. For someone that makes their living off of their skills with tools, tools become a valuable asset which should be properly maintained and cared for. A truck tool box can offer storage, organization, and protection for these assets.

Truck tool boxes will not only make your truck more useful, but it will add value simultaneously by protecting your tools from the elements, and from thieves, and increase the storage capacity of the vehicle. These storage units can be placed at various locations in the truck bed, or on top of the rail which is commonly seen on the vehicles of contractors or constructions workers since this allows the boxes to be easily accessed without the need to get in the truck bed. The location a person chooses to place to tool box will depend on the style and model of the box, as well as what seems most convenient for the user. While most tool boxes are located at the front of the bed right behind the cab, it may be placed along the sides closer to the tailgate if the person intends to utilize it as storage for grocery bags, shopping bags, or personal backpacks or luggage while on a quick trip to and from the store.

Typically made from heavy diamond plated aluminum, these tool boxes are meant to stand the test of time. With items such as lockable lids to prevent theft, or divider systems for inside the box that can be rearranged easily if the needs of the user changes, these products provide a wide array of useful features. Truck tool boxes come in a few different options of shapes and styles including corner units, double-lid units, or top mount units. What the truck owner decides on will depend on their personal needs, job requirements, or favorite outdoor activities.

Once a truck owner has decided on a model to purchase, attached it to the vehicle in a location that is convenient to them, they can immediately start storing and organizing tools and equipment that have been rolling around in the bottom of their truck bed, or shoved behind the front seat of the cab. Since these products can range in price from under $100 to nearly $600, it's a good idea to consider your needs first, then shop around and price compare. In the end you'll be able to rest easy knowing your precious cargo and tools are safely protected and stored.

Tool boxes for trucks are a great option for storing your tools and equipment. If you are in the market, research the models available and find the perfect truck tool box that will suit your personal needs and requirements.

The Undercover Truck Bed Cover

Pickup truck owners across the country are giving big thumbs up to the Undercover Classic bed cover.

The Classic's custom fitted design follows the lines of your pickup trucks bed perfectly for an attractive and precise fit.

The durable scratch resistant finish holds up well to harsh abuse. Unlike similar fiberglass covers, which are prone to scuffs and scratches, the Undercover has a textured finish that not only resists abuse but also matches the finish of your mirrors, door handles, tailgate handles and tailgate protectors.

The cover comes equipped with durable rubber bulb type seals on the bottom of the cover and a rubber flap at the front of the cover. With the high quality seals and the fact that the cover pretty much wraps over your bed you should have a pretty water tight bed. Installation of this cover can be accomplished by just about anyone who can turn a wrench.

The installation instructions are first rate and show you the proper procedure through the use of text and drawings which is very helpful.

The folks at Undercover have made the installation a clamp on affair, no drilling is required.

Simply clamp the four sub frames to the side of the bed with the provided clamps paying particular attention to the measurements outlined in the installation manual. Once that is accomplished have someone assist you with lifting the cover onto the truck. Because the cover only weighs 50 to 60 pounds your back won't feel it. Attach the hinge mounting hardware and snap on the quick release gas props and except for some fine adjustments you're done!

The Undercover also includes a convenient pull strap to assist in closing the cover as well as a pretty neat l.e.d. interior light that will illuminate the entire bed. Two locks are standard equipment on the cover and keys are included at no extra charge. Undercover even supplies two wall hooks in the package that allows for safe storage of the cover when it's not on your truck.

Undercover Classic Truck Cover

THE GOOD: Wow, They've nailed down just about feature that you could want in a lid style cover.

THE BAD: Well, we're nit picking but maybe it would be nice if the locks were a little more robust although they suffice.

THE UGLY: Nothing here. This is a great cover back by a great company!
